A 14-year-old boy who was allegedly gang-raped by five of his classmates in a school toilet in the Free State.
The traumatised teenager has not been attending lessons at his primary school in Selosesha in Thaba Nchu after he was raped on two separate days. He also told police that he was raped by four of the five boys.
His 39-year-old mother confirmed the sad incident.
After the alleged rape, teachers told how they were also terrified of the boys as they had been bullied by them. Several teachers admitted that the suspects made their lives hell.
The teacher said that the school had warned other pupils not to talk to the victim about the incident.
“He’s very quiet and that’s why the boys took advantage of him but he’s okay.
The mother said that her son had already attended three counselling sessions with a private doctor in Bloemfontein – thanks to the generous support from a Johannesburg-based company that offered to pay for his counselling.
“I don’t speak about his incident to him as I don’t want to confuse him because he’s getting counselling now.”
The boys, who each face three counts of rape, have made several appearances in the Selosesha Magistrate’s Court. They last appeared on August 3 and will be in court again on Wednesday for a formal bail application.
A police spokesperson for Thaba Nchu, Sergeant Martin Xuma, confirmed that the five are being held at the province’s Thabo Mofutsanyana Secure Care Centre.
