THE last thing the taxi driver did was to ask five noisy drunk men why they banged his taxi door when they were getting out of the vehicle.
The next thing, Mvumeleni Mthethwa (40) was lying dead in the road, covered in blood. One of the five drunk men had allegedly shot him dead.
Mvumeleni of Eshowe, KZN had just brought his passengers from Durban CDB to Ntuzuma C on Wednesday afternoon.
Mvumeleni’s cousin, Star Sibisi (41), said passengers told him that when Mvumeleni asked the men why they had slammed his door they dragged him out, saying he had no right to ask them anything.
One of them pulled out a gun and shot him five times and then ran away.
Star said passengers told him the five men looked drunk.
They shouted during the trip, bothered other passengers and demanded that Mvumeleni turn up the music.
“Passengers told me they were scared of the men.
“My cousin died just because he asked why they banged the door,” said Star.
He said Mvumeleni was a driver for three years and had three children.
The taxi owner refused to comment.
Major Thulani Zwane said a man was fatally shot by unknown suspects.
“A case of murder was opened at Ntuzuma Police Station for investigation.
“No arrests have been made,” said Zwane.
