FAMOUS prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s lawyer said yesterday the church leader won’t give in to intimidation.
Ntsako Baloyi claimed in an interview that dirty Hawks cops had demanded that the prophet pay them millions to make an investigation go away.
He said they had initially demanded R10 million!
And when the prophet refused to cough up, the cops allegedly demanded R5 million!
The figure then went down to R1 million and later shot up to R3 million.
Ntsako said Bushiri had been under surveillance since early this year, and a listening device had been found in his office following a burglary recently.
Church bouncers apparently had to throw out a man who drew a knife on the man of God last month.
It had also emerged in April that Bushiri was being investigated for money laundering, racketeering and rape.
The lawyer said the cases were later withdrawn.
The pastor’s passport was flagged and his phones and laptop were seized by US airport authorities.
“When he asked about the treatment, he was told to ask the police,” said Ntsako.
“He only got his his devices back on his return, but he felt they had been tampered with and bought new ones.”
They had then obtained an urgent court interdict and written letters to Home Affairs, the Hawks and the minister of police.
“The Hawks said there was no evidence of money laundering and the case was closed.”
A woman who accused Bushiri of rape had admitted that she made it up and the case was withdrawn.
But spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the Hawks don’t have the authority to withdraw cases.
“These are pure allegations without substantial evidence,” he said.
“The cases against Bushiri are still ongoing.”
Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini said they were aware of the matter.
“Ipid is investigating allegations of extortion and other allegations involving the police.”
