A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for the murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend in the Eastern Cape.
Mthandazo Bambiso was sentenced by the Tsomo Regional Magistrate’s Court.
The accused allegedly went to Ngqamakhwe Police Station to report that his girlfriend was murdered.
Ngqamakhwe Police visited the scene at the home of the accused at Mzantsi Locality, Sokapase Village, Ngqamakhwe. Officers became suspicious that the accused was not being honest about what had happened to his girlfriend. Bambiso was questioned and the investigation led to his arrest.
Blood stains were found on Bambiso’s underwear. He finally confessed that he murdered his girlfriend as they were the only two people at the home of the accused. The motive behind the murder was jealousy. The deceased was originally from Cofimvaba, also in the Eastern Cape. The deceased was identified as Zanele Mayila.
