27-year-old Emmanuel Matsika of Harare appeared in court yesterday facing murder charges after he was found in possession of a human head on Sunday. Appearing at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, Matsika pleaded guilty to a count of premeditated murder telling the court that he was pleading guilty in order to free his conscience.
He then told Harare Magistrate Elisha Singano that he stabbed David Arendi several times in the neck at a disused toilet in Lyton Road, Workington, Harare. After Arendi became unconscious from the loss of blood.
Arendi chopped of his head which he took with him and left the rest of the body at the crime scene. He was later arrested near the showgrounds and the police found Arendi’s head as well as two blood-stained knives which Matsika had used in his vile act.
Magistrate Elisha Singano asked Matsika if he had any mental condition to which he replied no. He was remanded in custody to January 7 pending indictment to the High Court for trial.
