Miss SA contestant reveals she is an INTERS.EX woman

Beauty queen Sharon-Rose Khumalo opened up about her sexual identity in a revealing, and touching, blog post this week
Sharon-Rose, who was a contestant on Miss South Africa in 2016, wanted her followers to know that “intersex is beautiful”.
“At the end of the day I’m a woman. Yes, I said it. I AM A WOMAN. And an intersex woman at that and our experiences as women, as different as they may be, are very similar and are what bring us together,” she said on her blog.
Sharon says she was diagnosed with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS) in 2012.
She talked about her diagnosis in a Facebook post several months ago.
“Before then I never knew what intersex or AIS was, but I quickly found out. Being intersex in a world that says there are two genders can be difficult on one’s soul, but it doesn’t need to be,” she said on Facebook.
Sharon-Rose, who is the current Miss Mamelodi Sundowns 2016/2017, says she is speaking out about her condition to encourage other intersex women
“I lived in silence about this part of my life but I don’t want to anymore. So I’m “coming out”… And if you’re reading this and you’re intersex – you are not alone!”
The BSc Biotechnology graduate recently opened up to the media, and the Miss Mamelodi Sundowns panel, about her condition.
