The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Lieutenant General LE Ntshinga has learnt with shock about the murder-suicide incident that took place this evening in Nompumelelo Informal Settlement, Beacon Bay, East London.
Sivuyile Mbaduli (37), who was stationed at Kidds Beach Police Station CSC, is alleged to have shot his wife, his brother in law and turned his service pistol on himself. At the time of the incident he was to have reported for duty, instead he booked off sick for night duties.
At approximately 17:30 yesterday he arrived at his place of residence and went to the back of the main house where his wife was.
It is further alleged that the brother in law Siyabulela Cweba (44) heard gun shots, coming from the outside dwelling. He went to the outer building to investigate. When he entered the shack where he heard the gunshots coming from, he met up with the policemen who shot him, killing him instantly.
It’s believed that, after shooting the brother in law the constable turned the gun on himself.
The paramedics were summoned to the scene and they certified all three victims dead on arrival.
At this stage the preliminary investigations strongly suggests that this has been a case of murder-suicide.
Two counts of Murder and Inquest is being investigated. He left behind 4 children aged 15,12,9 and 7 years of age.
Our hearts goes out to the victims’ families, friends and the residents in the area. The South African Police Service will render the necessary Employee Health and Wellness assistance to the family during their time of need.
“We would once again urge our members to consult our professional employee assistance support structures within the organization to help them with their personal wellness challenges,” Lt Gen Ntshinga said.
