Kabelo Khumalo (25) and his wife Mukhethwa (30) released a video this week telling the nation that they have been married for three years and are as happy as they were on their wedding day.
When Daily Sun spoke to the couple, they said when they got married they went to a registry office, which cost very little.
“Then we called our friends and invited them to a park where we erected a gazebo and said our vows,” said Mukhethwa.
She said while her husband went to buy the rings, she went to buy her dress at Legit.
“I bought shoes at Mr Price and we bought a cake at Woolworths and had pizza and wine.”
She said they didn’t even hire chairs.
The guests stood and after the ceremony they played music on a speaker connected to their phone.
“It was great. Every time we remember that day, we smile,” she said.
Kabelo said the rings cost R850.
“After the wedding we moved into our own house and furnished it,” said Kabelo.
“We advise couples to make sure they are not broke after their wedding celebration. Don’t break the bank for one day.”
The couple said they do not have kids yet.
“We are still enjoying life. When we have kids we will bring them into a warm and comfortable home,” said Kabelo.
They said one day they may have a big ceremony but for now, they are happy.
