Hip hop has gained notoriety for gangsterism, squads, beefs and of course, battles.
In the South African context, rapper extraordinaire AKA has had his fair share of being in embroiled in all things controversy, however many of his fans witnessed him in a different setting – a friendly battle.
Though hip hop battles don’t occur very often especially in South Africa, the streets came alive when two of Mzansi’s hip hop mavericks, AKA and Nasty C engaged in what seemed like a friendly battle.
Back in the mid 2000’s, iconic rappers such as Stogie T (Formerely Tumi), Zubz and the late Prokid would battle each other and it mattered who would come victorious because it amplifies a rapper’s street cred.
Fast forward to 2019, imagine if these kind of battles between our favourite rappers took place regularly, the excitement in the realm of hip hop would be palpable.
There’s been a lot of divisive acts, therefore this kind of sport would most likely bring about unity that has seemingly gone out the window.
