Two sisters were killed after they were accused of witchcraft in Ngonyameni village, Emaxesibeni in the Eastern Cape.
According to reports, the women, aged 53 and 33, were burnt to death on Wednesday. Their houses were also destroyed in the attack.
Alfred Nzo District Municipality Mayor Sixolile Mehlomakhulu said that the killing was “inhuman”.
“We, working with other government institutions, have been conducting series of gender-based violence awareness campaigns throughout the district and we will continue with such awareness programmes, particularly on this issue of alleged
witchcraft,” Mehlomakhulu said.
Police are currently investigating the matter.
