A woman Gauteng woke up alive in a morgue after she was officially declared dead.
The woman from Gauteng was found breathing after mortuary staff went to check on the body.
She had “showed no signs of life” following a traffic accident, reports TimesLive.
Staff at the mortuary removed her from the fridge and she is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
A source at the mortuary told the TimesLive that when a member of staff “pulled out the woman’s body, he saw that she was breathing.”
Gerrit Bradnick, operations manager at Distress Alert ambulance service said that paramedics had confirmed that the woman was dead.
He said his colleagues had followed all protocols and “equipment used to determine life showed no form of life on the woman.”
Mr Bradnick added: “This did not happen because our paramedics are not properly trained. There is no proof of any negligence by our crew.”
According to TimesLive, the woman was involved in a car accident on 24 June. Two other people died in the incident.
She has not been identified.
It comes seven years after a 50-year-old man in South Africa woke up inside a mortuary screaming. He spent 24 hours inside the morgue before waking up.
He was treated in hospital for dehydration.
